Should I learn Lebanese or Modern Standard Arabic?
If you want to speak with people in Lebanon and the region, start with Lebanese spoken Arabic: it is what everyone speaks every day. If you need to read and write formal Arabic, or you study it at university, start with Modern Standard Arabic (Fusha).
How does the free level test work?
It is a short video call. Sherine asks a few questions in Arabic, adapted to you, and talks with you about why you want to learn. Afterwards you know your level and which course fits. Complete beginners don't need a level test: Sherine proposes a free trial lesson directly.
Do I need to know the Arabic alphabet?
No. You start with transliteration, and after about two weeks (1h30 a day) you can read and write Arabic.
How long is a lesson?
A lesson lasts 1h30. A full level takes about 2.5 months at an intensive pace.
Which platform do you use?
Zoom or Google Meet. You only need a computer or tablet with a camera and a quiet place.
Which language are lessons taught in?
In English. Sherine also understands French, and with learners who are not fluent in English she uses very simple English.
How do I pay?
Payment details are sent after your trial lesson. The accepted methods are listed on the Pricing page. There is no payment on this website.
What if I need to cancel a lesson?
Cancel or move a lesson with at least 24 hours' notice and nothing is charged. The full rule is on the Terms page.
How does "one free hour every ten" work?
For private lessons, after ten paid hours, the 11th hour is free.
Can my partner or colleague join me?
Yes, in a group class. Groups have 3 to 4 learners at the same level, at $15 an hour per student.
Do you teach children?
Yes, at any age. A parent fills in the request form. Children under 10 have 30-minute private lessons ($20). From age 10: $25 an hour for private lessons, $15 an hour per child in a group.
Do you offer cooking classes?
Yes, as an add-on: online, educational Lebanese cooking classes in Arabic for groups, schools and companies. Ask through the form; price on request.
